at Sept 24 - Namebrandsound system aka IG Culture and Alex Phountzi bring back their red hot new dance, Arena Yard, to the Bussey building/CLF Art Cafe. This month's ranking good time session seeing Critical Music mainstay Sam Binga guesting on the decks for a sub-loaded rinse out of Footwork, Jungle, Hip Hop, Broken Beat, Dancehall & Beyond.
Launched in 2014 on Ninja Tune offshoot 'Technicolor' NameBrandSound is the coming together of UK music veterans IG Culture & Alex Phountzi - best known for their involvement in the Broken Beat scene as New Sector Movements & Bugz in the Attic.
Their history in London's music scene, especially their role in legendary club series Co-Op, informs their music with a deep understanding of UK sound system culture. Recent releases including their Nowadays Pressure EP & Spaceship EP have seen support from key tastemakers Alexander Nut, Brackles, Benji B, Gilles Peterson & more.
Both IG & Alex have a long-standing reputation as all encompassing selectors playing everything from Footwork, 2-Step, Soul, Dancehall and Broken beat. Together as NameBrandSound they create a sound system ethos where anything goes, with eclectic DJ sets spanning the widespread selection of influences that feature in their groundbreaking productions.
Guest selector for this session is Critical, Exit & 50 Weapons regular Sam Binga (Bristol). His productions & mixes span Bass-heavy UK sounds, making Binga the perfect addition to the Arena Yard series at the CLF/Bussey. From Dancehall flavoured releases with Redders, to Footwork / Jungle alongside Om Unit, Sam Binga has been merking dancefloors with a variety of badman styles for some time now. Coming to the CLF/Bussey for the first time we can't wait to hear his trademark tightly coiled productions & dancefloor movin' riddims pumping out of the Void Air Motion rig in our 2nd Floor Warehouse space.
